UNSU

[CD]

By: T.J.

UNSU is my first experience with the French thrash metal band known as Lyzanxia. I've heard great things about these guys, so I was more than eager to see what the band had to offer. As I previously mentioned, the band is known mostly as a (premier) thrash metal act and while that's true, the band shares it sounds with other genres such as death and metalcore. I say thrash because the music is much in the vein of classic thrash; incredible riffs along with blazing lead breaks. I say death and metalcore because of the dueling vocal stylings that brothers (and founding members) David and Franck Potvin bring forth. Often times you'll hear a machine gun fire of death metal vocals, then out of nowhere clean vocals come along to embrace and cradle the more dominant force. As far as the music is concerned there's a large Arch Enemy and At the Gates influence.

Aside from the from the impeccable thrash tracks, the album sounds great. This is the kind of album you love to hear; wonderfully written songs that are produced with phenomenal quality. When the two come together, it heightens the listening experience and does wonders for the band and in this case Lyzanxia comes out looking like a true champion. My suggestion, if you haven't already, check out Lyzanxia and see that thrash isn't just a Bay area thing anymore.
